BIG BEAR LAKE, San Bernardino County — Thursday, October 22, 2026. A National Weather Service update issued 12:42 p.m. Pacific keeps a Wind Advisory in effect until 6:00 p.m. for the San Bernardino County mountains, including Big Bear Lake and Big Bear City.
The San Diego weather forecast office expects southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts from 45 to 55 mph. The advisory warns that unsecured objects could be blown around, limbs may fall, and some power outages may result. These are potential consequences, not proof that homes or businesses have already lost electricity.
What the advisory means for residents
High-profile vehicles can be difficult to control in strong crosswinds. Residents should secure or shelter loose outdoor items when safe, avoid parking beneath damaged trees, and stay away from downed utility lines. If a power line falls, call 911; do not approach it even if it appears inactive.
Residents who depend on medical devices should check their own electricity provider’s outage alerts and emergency-power arrangements. A wind warning is not a scheduled de-energization notice. Utilities may experience equipment damage without issuing a Public Safety Power Shutoff.
Is electricity currently out in Big Bear?
The NWS wind advisory alone does not report a confirmed Big Bear outage or customer count. Bear Valley Electric Service’s outage information is one relevant utility source for customers in its territory. For current weather changes, consult NWS San Diego.
When will the wind ease?
The advisory is valid until 6 p.m. Thursday, October 22, as of the NWS 12:42 p.m. bulletin. A later extension or cancellation is possible; the posted end time should not be interpreted as a guarantee that gusty weather ends immediately at that hour.
